Basque Leonard Parent
Leonard Parent Basque (1927-2016)
Born in Trois-Pistoles, Quebec, a self-taught artist who has painted the Quebec landscape with a colorful lyrical representation, but he also approaches abstracted realism more closely in his other subjects while never losing a charming dreamlike lyricism that makes these paintings so appealing. In his book L’Art au Québec depuis 1940, Guy Robert notes how Basque marries realism, abstraction and the energy of the non-figurative, into his own creative landscapes. Basque taught art history and oil painting techniques at the Faculté des Sciences de l’Éducation de l’université du Québec à Rimouski.
Leonard Basque participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and his works are part of numerous private and public collections around the world.
