Coté Bruno
Bruno Coté (1940 - 2010)
Born in Quebec City, of Irish, Scottish, and French origins. During his childhood years outings in the forest gave him an appreciation of the beautiful landscape of Quebec. In the 1960’s he began painting seriously. In 1978 he held his first solo show at Baie-Saint-Paul where the Coté family settled. Charlevoix County became his inspiration. In 1980 he travelled to western Canada and painted in the Rockies. He made subsequent trips to many other parts of Canada, seeking his subjects from Vancouver to Newfoundland. To begin a day, he arrived at his chosen painting spot early in the morning to catch the effects of the rising sun on misty landscapes. At other times he captured scenes bathed in the setting sun. He often applies broad brush strokes with magical effects. The skies hills, trees, and water he painted are spectacular and today he takes his place amongst Canada’s finest landscape painters.
